The Costa Tropical (Tropical Coast) is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean Sea. The over 100-kilometer-long coastline has many sheltered beaches, alternated by bays with crystal clear water. This coastal strip of the province of Granada, located between the Costa del Sol in the province of Malaga and the Costa de Almeria, in the Autonomous Region of Andalusia, one can enjoy the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The Costa Tropical has a for Europe unique sub-tropical climate. For both hibernators as sun-lovers and naturists the Costa Tropical is a perfect environment. The sun shines more than 320 days per year and provides an average temperature of over 20° C. In winter the temperature rarely drops below 12 degrees and the daytime temperature is usually around 17 degrees. In the summer, there is a soft sea breeze which helps you to cool down. Thanks to this mild climate all kinds of tropical fruits can grow on the slowly descending mountain slopes and valleys which forms one of the main sources of revenue for this region.
On the Costa Tropical there are everywhere towers and
fortifications which once during the Arab domination served as lookout posts. The historical importance of this region can be found in villages which all enjoy high-quality tourist facilities with charming restaurants where you can enjoy an unforgettable and affordable vacation. As a visitor, you have a wide choice of quiet sunbathing on small beaches with crystal clear water and strolling through the streets of authentic villages as Lenteji and Otivar to the practice of exciting sports such as diving, kite surfing or paragliding. There are many interesting places to find on the Costa Tropical. For example, Salobreña, Castell de Ferro, Motril, Jette, Lenteji, Otivar, La Herradura and Almuñécar which are all offering a wide range of tourist attractions, from water sports to excursions to the green countryside.
Close to the Costa Tropical are also remarkable enclaves such as Las Alpujarras, the last Moorish stronghold on the Iberian Peninsula. Cities such as Granada with her centuries old Alhambra and the ancient villages as Frigliana with her streets of hundreds of years old, gives the history and culture of Andalucía her perfect expression. Trips to Gibraltar and Tangier in Morocco are even from here easy to do. Far from the encroachment of mass tourism, the Costa Tropical is a paradise where you can enjoy fresh fish, fresh vegetables and fruit, and where you, as a full member of the community, can participate in the traditional fiestas that are celebrated each spring and summer.
